Circle BMW & Junior League of Monmouth County Lead The Way
As one of New Jersey’s BMW leaders, Circle BMW understands the importance of good, solid leadership. That is why the family-owned, luxury car dealership founded in 1981 and located in Eatontown, supports efforts that mentor future leaders like the Junior League of Monmouth County. For over 65 years, the Junior League of Monmouth County (JLMC) has been a volunteer organization for women interested in making a positive impact on their communities. There are more than 300 members, trained and accomplished collaborators who build coalitions, identify needs and develop effective and responsive programs to serve the community. The JLMC is part of the Association of Junior Leagues International (AJLI), which is made up of over 300 Junior Leagues in four countries. This year, Circle BMW will be a major sponsor for the JLMC 3rd Annual Spring Market, a shopping boutique featuring unique and high-end specialty merchandise. The two-day event will take place on Friday, April 11 and Saturday, April 12 at the Sheraton Hotel in Eatontown, New Jersey. Last year, approximately 1,000 shoppers attended Spring Market. Three exciting events designed to promote Spring Market and attract shoppers will take place: a preview luncheon on Friday featuring Brenda Kinsel, an award-winning image consultant and author of five books on fashion for women, a themed cocktail party on Friday evening (sponsored by Hamilton Jewelers and Circle BMW) and a Mother/Daughter luncheon on Saturday with guest speaker Tara McBratney, fashion director of CosmoGirl Magazine. For more information please contact Caroline Connelly, Co-Chair of the JLMC Spring Market Committee. Her email is: caroline_connelly@netzero.com. Circle BMW's sponsorship will allow the JLMC to promote permanent positive change in the lives of at-risk women and children in Monmouth County. The JLMC is currently involved promoting literacy through its Superstar Literacy project in partnership with Red Bank primary school. Launched in 2005, Superstars Literacy focuses on building reading skills through one-on-one tutoring for students who have not reached grade level reading proficiency. Circle BMW's sponsorship will also allow the JLMC to support other important JLMC programs, including our Done-in-a-Day (DIAD) projects and leadership and community training of JLMC volunteers. Membership in the Junior League provides women with access to invaluable training from AJLI, the New Jersey State Council of Junior Leagues and the JLMC. Training topics include leadership and organizational development, community program work, diversity training and fund development. Through this unique training, JLMC members learn to manage and train other volunteers, unite communities and form partnerships. The impact of this organization on Monmouth County is a testament to the countless hours, energies, talents and commitment of its members. The JLMC has been instrumental in opening doors for women and children, for the arts and human services, for education and for the environment. The JLMC has made a difference and it shows in the enhanced quality of life for women and children in Monmouth County. Community Projects The Superstars Literacy project was launched in the Fall of 2005 and continues today. This signature project has been modeled after an award-winning literacy project in California. The goal of the program is to promote literacy in at-risk youth and their families. Superstars Literacy incorporates after school homework assistance with family field trips and adult workshops. Done in a Day provides JLMC volunteers with an opportunity to directly impact the community through hands-on projects. Volunteers mobilize on a wide-range of mini-projects including, but not limited to: Clean Ocean Action Beach Sweep, Saturday Soup in Asbury Park, Bridge of Books, Keansburg Resource Network, RSVP of Monmouth County and various drives to collect warm coats, canned goods and school supplies. State Public Affairs Committee works towards the enactment of legislation and initiative to improve the quality of life for women and children as well as the quality of education, the environment and healthcare. It is a statewide, non-partisan committee comprised of representatives from each of the eight Junior Leagues in New Jersey. |
