Forthcoming BMW 8 Series Coupe Shown Off in Concept Form
Until now, the 6 Series was the top-shelf coupe in the Bavarian automaker’s portfolio. Now that it’s leaving, however, there’s a hole at the top of the range—one that will be filled by a new model based off the 7 Series. Meet the BMW Concept 8 Series coupe, the first of its ilk in nearly two decades. Even in prototype form, its crisp lines and stately looks speak volumes about the production model to come.
Concept cars usually offer a highly-stylized foretelling of the model offered on dealership lots, and with luxury models like the Concept 8 Series, more of that usually carries over. For example, the large double kidney grille and i8-inspired back end will probably show up in production form, and BMW has advised the press that the crisp character lines will be present not only in the eventual 8 Series coupe, but future redesigned models. On that front, an M8 will be offered with the M5’s biturbo V8, while a twin-turbo V12 will be the flagship mill.
