How to Prep your BMW for the Winter

October 23rd, 2019 by

When Autumn comes it’s time to start prepping your BMW for the winter. Circle BMW Service & Parts can fully prepare your vehicle for the cold weather.

Antifreeze – (also known as coolant) must be topped off. Antifreeze helps protect your vehicle’s engine. It stops the water in your engine’s cooling system from freezing. It also helps raise the boiling point of engine coolant to prevent overheating. Antifreeze also protects your engine from corrosion.

Wipers and Wiper Fluid – you’re going to want wiper blades in good condition for those snowy and rainy days and visibility will be compromised. If you have worn out blades, they will leave streaks and marks with snowy and rainy conditions. You’re also going to want to top off your wiper fluid to help get that ice and salt off your windshield.

Battery Check – a battery check is important b/c an old battery will fail to start your car in extremely cold weather. You definitely do not want to be stuck somewhere with a car that won’t start and no heat. If your battery is dying, it will start eliminating things off that it doesn’t need to power like ..

For example, if your car is locked, and your headlights are on auto mode, that should turn on your halos when you unlock your car. If you unlock your car, and your halos or side led lights are not turning on, that is a clear indication that your battery is slowly dying. If your battery is old or dying, bring your vehicle in for a battery check.

If you store your car during the winter time, you will want to purchase a battery maintainer. You plug this device into your battery and charge it all winter. You won’t have to worry about your battery dying and needing to be replaced.

Tires – if your tires are worn out and your treads are thinning out, now might be a good time to invest in a new set of tires. Depending on the type of BMW you have, it may be time to put on your Winter tires.

Winter Mats- Circle BMW winter has mats that will protect your car’s interior from salt and wet conditions; we have mats for each BMW model. A rear cargo liner is also good for the snow and slush. It is shaped like a bowl to keep everything inside of the liner, and then you can take it out and dump out the dirt etc.
