Circle BMW, together with the American Red Cross, will host a community blood drive on Sunday, November 13, 2022, from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. in Circle BMW’s showroom located at 500 Rt. 36 East, Eatontown, N.J. 07724. This is the second year that Circle BMW will host a community blood drive.

Currently, the American Red Cross is experiencing an emergency blood shortage. Their national blood inventory is the lowest it’s been at this time of year since 2015, with less than a day’s supply of certain blood types in recent weeks.

“Circle BMW is committed to strengthening our community and helping meet hospital and patient needs through blood donations,” said Circle BMW Vice President & General Counsel, Thomas J. DeFelice, III. “Last year we exceeded their expectations in all areas! This blood drive is our way of giving staff, colleagues, and neighbors an opportunity to help save lives.”

Blood is a perishable product that can only come from volunteer blood donors. With someone in the U.S. needing blood every two seconds, blood products must be constantly replenished, according to the Red Cross. Circle BMW will have appointments available for both a Blood and Power Red Donation. A typical blood donation is the most common type of donation, during which approximately a pint of 'whole blood' is given. This type of blood donation usually takes about an hour. A Power Red donation collects the red cells but returns most of the plasma and platelets to the donor. These donors must meet specific requirements.

“We urge community members to donate blood and help ensure that patients in local hospitals have a supply of blood ready and waiting before an emergency occurs. There’s no better feeling than knowing that your blood donation may give someone a second chance at life,” added DeFelice.

According to the Red Cross, donors with all blood types are needed, especially those with types O negative, A negative, and B negative. To ensure the safety of both patients and donors, these are some of the requirements donors must meet to be eligible to donate blood based on their donation type. Donors looking to give a whole blood donation must be in good health and feeling well, be at least 16 years old and weigh at least 110lb. For a Power Red donation, donors must be in good health and feeling well. Additionally, male donors must be at least 17 years old, at least 5’1” tall, and weigh at least 130lbs. Female donors must be 19 years old, at least 5’5” tall, and weigh at least 150 lbs. These donors must also have type A Neg, B Neg, or O blood.
